This qualification is vocationally based and as such, offers the opportunity for learners to demonstrate an achievement of practical skills, understanding and knowledge in the workplace. Learners will gain knowledge on generic skills including health and safety, and confirming working practices. Learners will also follow one of fifteen pathways, each of which will focus on a different type of plant operation.
This qualification has been developed to allow learners to evidence their occupational competence in plant operations within the workplace for various types of plant such as extraction, material transportation, lifting and in-shore marine within the construction sector.
It can be taken as a standalone qualification to demonstrate occupational competence, providing evidence for operatives to progress from the red trained operator Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) to the blue competent operator CPCS card, or for learners who are working directly towards their blue competent operator CPCS card. Entry Requirements
Learners must be age 16 years or over to take this qualification. As this qualification is an NVQ learners must be employed in order to generate workplace evidence of competence.
On Completion
On completion of this qualification learners could progress from the red trained operator Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS) to the blue competent operator CPCS card, they could also take up an apprenticeship or progress onto higher level qualifications such as a Level 3 in Occupational Workplace Supervision.
If taken as part of the Construction Civil Engineering (England), Level 2, Pathway 5: Plant Operations apprenticeship, learners must be educated to, be able to achieve, a Level 1 standard of maths and English. In addition to these they must also gain the required Level 2 Certificate or Diploma in Plant Operations and Employee Rights and Responsibilities. Learners undertaking the apprenticeship would need to be employed in a suitable role to be able to provide workplace generated evidence required for the NVQ.
