The standards for obtaining a CSCS Labourer card are set by the industry, not CSCS.
Currently, applicants must:
- Achieve the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment (or an approved alternative).
- Pass the CITB Health, Safety, and Environment (HS&E) test (or an approved alternative).
CITB in its role as the Standard Setting Body, is approved by the National Occupational Standards Governance Group and Skills Development Scotland to update National Occupational Standards (NOS) on behalf of the construction industry. As part of a cyclical review of standards CITB have established a working group of industry experts to revise the Level 1 Award in Health and Safety in a Construction Environment to ensure it remains relevant and fit for purpose.
Volunteer Opportunity
CITB is inviting industry volunteers to help shape the future of the L1 Award and how it fits into Core Construction competency standards which will provide that base level of competence for all those starting out onsite including Labourers.
Volunteers will ideally be employers or industry experts and have an up-to-date working knowledge of the occupation relevant to their sector within the construction and allied industries and understand labourer training and assessment requirements. To express an interest, please email CITB at Standards.Qualifications@citb.co.uk.
